Olympic Champions Laura Trott and Jason Kenny took time to visit Dogs Trust Manchester.
After what was a dull and wet morning, the sun came out for the arrival of the Gold Medallists, which as the photographer I was grateful for and with it being late afternoon the golden hour was arriving, perfect.
It was clear from the beginning how much they both love dogs, Laura who couldn’t wait to sit on the floor and play with the puppies. They may both be World Champion cyclists, both have OBEs, but Jason and Laura are two of the nicest, down to earth, people who had a genuine interest in what Dogs Trust are trying to achieve and in the dogs themselves. Although Laura had agreed to publicity to help Dogs Trust, it was very clear the publicity was for helping the dogs and not for herself.
First stop was with the puppies. Two absolutely adorable little ones, who were interested in the photographer and what I was doing, as well as chewing my fingers. Dogs Trust have a special puppy block complete with their own little outside play area and lots of toys. Everything they need to learn to interact with other puppies and with people, ensuring they have been prepared for going to a new home. Below are a few of the shots taken in the puppy area.
After visiting the puppies, we all went outside to spend some time with two Springer Spaniel siblings Jessie and Oscar, who were looking for a home together. These two spaniels were fantastic, very affectionate and loved nothing more than having Jason and Laura playing ball with them, which they were more than happy to oblige. As they are not only bonded, but siblings, Dogs Trust was only allowing them to be adopted together and rightly so.
Laura completely fell in love with these two, as you can see in the photographs and I think if she didn’t already have two dogs of her own she would have been very tempted to adopt these two.
It was an absolute pleasure and honour to be the photographer for Dogs Trust that afternoon, meeting and photographing both Laura and Jason with the dogs. They were fantastic to work with and my method of not shouting posing instructions, but shooting candidly with the exception of group posed shots, made for some wonderful photographs that show the love of a girl and a dog. Laura is a natural and every photo is genuine love for the dogs, not posed in any way, her personality shone through. They both showed in the photos what lovely people they both are and the dogs knew just how much they loved spending time with them.
UPDATE: After the story with my photographs were run by the Manchester Evening News, ITV.COM News, and Laura herself tweeting about Jessie and Oscar. I can happily report that they have both been reserved and are waiting to go off to their new forever home. What a wonderful outcome!
